EduLab Aid is a Non-Governmental Organization that focuses on science education. We are leading the fight against inequality in quality Science Education in rural Ghana.

In Ghana, the learning and teaching of science in basic schools is a daily struggle for both teachers and students. This is compounded in rural communities where there are no single laboratory facilities for schools to use. I was nurtured in this system and had decided that something must be done about the situation many years ago. I remember days when we were asked to ‘visualize’ animal cells and plant cells in our minds. I vividly remember when we were asked to ‘imagine’ a reaction between vinegar and baking soda!

I also remember moments when my teacher told us about a microscope in Primary 4. I had to wait for 6 years to see the microscope for the first time in high school.

A few years later, I found myself teaching Science in Indonesia and the Middle East. Here, activities were intentionally designed to develop inquiry skills in students. Every lesson had a corresponding activity for students to practice and enhance their thinking and inquiry skills.

On coming back home, I noticed that things haven’t changed much and if ever there was a change, it was restricted to the wealthy city schools, leaving the poor rural schools to their fate. These schools have no idea what a science experiment looks like and to them, science is a mystery. This inspired the formation of this organization; EduLab Aid. We believe that science must not be learnt through mental visualizations but through hands-on activities that develop inquiry skills in students. This requires the supply of necessary laboratory equipment for use in the schools and we are here to help.

We want you to help that potential engineer, potential doctor, potential nurse whose dreams may never come true because he/she sees science as an impossibility in the future. Thank you for joining us to bring out the best in our students.

EduLab Aid  employs a novel and unique strategy. We travel to our schools with our laboratory equipment and an inquiry science specialist to support the science teacher on grounds to design engaging laboratory experiments for the students. So, basically, we send the laboratory to the schools!

And that’s not all, we use the internationally acclaimed inquiry based curriculum, the International Baccalaureate Middle Year Program (IB MYP Science) in the design of all our activities, with the aim of developing inquiry skills in the students. The science teacher on the ground is given training and support in the use of inquiry to design experiments.
